After viewing the Scientastic! episode, “Sticks and Stones,” students will further explore the anatomy of bones, diagnosis of broken bones, and healing and regenerative medicine in this hands-on learning activity.
Students travel to six stations in pairs or groups where they will read a short story about a person who broke a bone and view an x-ray and model of the broken bone. They “repair” each bone with a set of materials, such as a scaffold made of salt dough, and record their diagnoses in a medical journal. After, they discuss their findings with their classmates.
